Iconic film posters

by Elizabeth

These posters all have something in common, it is the fact that they are all ICONIC. This means that as an audience we can identify with these posters because they attract the audience and get their attention. Most of the time there is a houstyle that is used on the poster this is to ensure that people can relate to it. There is a distinctive image of the protagonist featured on the poster, this is because this is who the film is centred around so as a result, they need to be the focal point of the poster. Generally, there is only one person or thing that is featured on the poster, in certain cases such as in the Chicago film poster, there are three people featured on the poster which means that all these people all have equal importance within the film.

The font is also another aspect of film posters, they are easier to read and are bold, they are always the same colour and are in capital letters. This is to show the audience that this is the title of the film and it needs to be in bold in order to grasp the audiences attention. A tagline is always used on the poster, this makes the audience want to understand what it means. For example, on the Insidious poster the tagline used is 'IT'S NOT THE HOUSE THAT'S HAUNTED' this leaves the audience desperate to find out what it means, therefore the impotance of the tagline lures the audience in which will eventually get them to watch the film itself.
